As the foremost publisher of children’s books, Children’s Book Trust found a paucity of trained book publishing professionals and illustrators. To fill this gap, it set up the Shankar’s Academy of Art and Book Publishing in 1991 in memory of the late K. Shankar Pillai, the founder of CBT and a renowned cartoonist. The Academy is situated in Nehru House, New Delhi. The Academy began by conducting two Diploma Courses--one in Art, Book Illustration and Graphics, and the other in Publishing. The course content of both soon gained intense popularity among young working professionals and students desirous of honing their skills in the print and visual media. However, the publishing course is currently suspended. The Academy is now in its 34th year. A short term add-on course in web designing has been introduced this year. For details see Academy prospectus 2023-2025.
